This is just a reminder note for the record that three Democratic Senators voted in favor of this travesty of an attorney general, William Barr: Kyrsten Sinema (AZ), Doug Jones (AL), and Joe Manchin (KY).
There are times for bipartisanship and “voting your district,” but these guys didn’t swear a loyalty oath to their states. They swore a loyalty oath to protect and defend the US constitution. Voting to confirm this attorney general has given license to corruption of the law, undermined confidence in the Justice Department, and allows this country to slide a step closer to a presidential dictatorship. This isn’t just political naivete—though it is certainly that. It is also dangerous to the rule of law and the liberties guaranteed by our constitution.
These Senators bear responsibility for this result—and everything that Mr. Barr does while he is in office. If the republic falls because we have an attorney general who is willing to twist the law to serve the president’s own ends, then responsibility for that is on these Senators. So, I ask those Democrats to kindly get a clue about their jobs and what they are actually facing on the other side or to reconsider their careers in politics. If they couldn’t see this attorney general for the partisan shill he was—or worse, did see it but didn’t care enough to vote against him—then they have no business being in their Senatorial offices anyway. If they aren’t issuing abject apologies for their foolish votes, they should each be made subject to a primary challenge.
